This week's column: Penn's
professional prospects plentiful

HOLLYWOOD (AP) - A spokesman for Sean Penn announced this week that the actor has narrowed down his next fake career to two options: astronaut and fireman.

The Oscar winner and political activist is currently covering the Iranian elections as a correspondent for the San Francisco Chronicle, but has said he feels that when his stint as a fake journalist comes to a close, he'd like to be ready with the next fake career that he can use his celebrity to weasel his way into.

The announcement comes on the heels of widespread criticism over his Chronicle assignment, primarily from newspaper journalists, who are "plagued by gnawing feelings of inadequacy as it is," said Roberta Peller, spokeswoman for the National Association of Newspaper Writers.

Sean Penn isn't alone in faking careers. The only reason he hasn't become Secretary of Defense, or a Senator from New York, is that the competition for those jobs to "fake it until you make it" is just too keen. Seems redundant, though: why is he searching? He was a pretty good fake actor there for a while.

You know, if I were an actor, I'd use the new leverage handed to me and make the most of it too. Think about it....you have the world handed to you on a silver platter, you can do whatever you want....just be thankful he's not trying to run for office. Articles aren't as damaging. And at least he's out there doing....SOMETHING! As it were, I'd rather be out there, doing something that everyone thinks is stupid, and redicules me for, than hide inside, counting my money, being fake and "properly" famous. I applaud Sean for at least taking all the flak he has for doing what he's done. Maybe he just doesn't want to be famous anymore.
And I thought him quite talented....I'd like to see ANY of you try and do his job. It's not easy. He just gets paid a heck a lot better than the rest of us, and has way more perks. Maybe he's just ready to make the most of life. I think anyone who does that....is astounding.

Yeah Steph, let's applaud Sean Penn for expressing an opinion because nobody else is likely, eh?

I wish Sean Penn would stop doing voiceovers - he RUINED Dogtown
